Note that you will need to be registered and logged into the site to do any of the following.

How do I submit an item?

Go to the ITEMS menu
Choose Submit an Item
Fill in the resulting form and click Submit

How do I know if someone is interested in my item?

Go to the MY ACCOUNT menu
Choose My Messages
Any messages from interested people will be displayed
In addition you will receive e-mail alerts about any interest in your items

How do I edit one of my items?

Go to the MY ACCOUNT menu.
Choose My Items.
Click an item and you will be taken to the Edit/Delete screen.
Go ahead and make your changes. Note that this effectively takes it off the site until the moderator has approved the changes .

How do I delete one of my items?

Go to the MY ACCOUNT menu.
Choose My Items.
Click an item and you will be taken to the Edit/Delete screen.
To remove an item along with any associated messages click Delete.

How do I contact people about collecting one of their items?

Go to ITEMS menu.
Choose Available Items.
Click an item that you are interested in collecting.
Read the details and if you are still interested click the 'I'm Interested'.
Fill in the resulting form and click Submit.
Check your My Messages screen from the MY ACCOUNT menu regularly to check for a response.
Arrange collection with the item owner by exchanging messages through My Messages.

How do I contact someone about giving them an item they want?

Go to ITEMS menu.
Choose Wanted Items.
Click an item that you think you can help with.
Read the details and if you still feel you can help click the 'I can give you one of these!'
Fill in the resulting form and click Submit.
Check your My Messages screen from the MY ACCOUNT menu regularly to check for a response.
Arrange for your offered item to be picked up by exchanging messages through My Messages.

How do I send a message to someone?

First express an interest in another item.
After they reply you can begin exchanging messages.
Go to the MY ACCOUNT menu.
Choose My Messages.
Click one of the messages that the item owner has sent to you.
Type your message and send it.

How do I view or edit my profile?

Go to the MY ACCOUNT menu.
Choose My Profile.
Fill in the resulting form and click Update.

What about pictures? Do they have to be a certain size? What do I do about that?

You can post photos to go with your listing. They have to be .jpg or .jpeg file type (all digital cameras amd phones make this type of file) The maximum size of picture that you can upload is 1mb. The site software will automatically resize your image down to 250 pixels wide. If you picture is bigger than 1mb; and it may well be if you take it with a modern camera, then you will have to resize/resample it before you try to upload it.

This can be done with any image editing program such as Photoshop, Paintshop Pro etc. The chances are your camera came bundled with editing software so check that and consult the user guide for instructions on how to change a picture size.

How long will my item stay on the Green Giving website?

The maximum length of time an item will remain on Green Giving is 60 days. After this you will be sent an email asking if you still have the item available and wish to resbmit it. If you do not do this then it will be removed from the system.

How about general safety procedures?

When donating or picking up items, you should make sure your pick up of goods is safe. For personal ease and safety, always ensure you take someone with you. Never invite anyone into your home. Never let your children pick up or donate the goods themselves. Choose a safe place to meet. eg outside a supermarket. Green Giving can take no responsibility for your safe pick up and donating. Please be sensible and cautious.
